Mavis Leno

“Gail has been my friend for over 30 years and I can take her anywhere.”
– Mavis Leno

Mavis Nicholson Leno is the Chair of the Feminist Majority Foundation’s Campaign to Help Afghan Women and Girls, and has been the United States’ most outspoken critic of the Taliban’s horrific treatment of women.

Leno joined the Board of Directors of the Feminist Majority Foundation in 1997, after playing an active role in the effort to defeat Proposition 209, the anti-affirmative action initiative on the 1996 California ballot.

Leno assumed her role as Chair of the Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan in 1997, less than one year after the Taliban’s brutal treatment of women began. She testified on gender apartheid in March 1998 before Senator Diane Feinstein of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and has consistently urged the Clinton and Bush Administrations as well as the U.S. Congress to do more to restore women’s human rights in Afghanistan.

Her involvement in the Feminist Majority’s Campaign was also instrumental in defeating the energy company UNOCAL’s efforts to construct an oil pipeline across Afghanistan that would have supplied the Taliban with over $100 M and dramatically increased their control in the region.

She is currently a leader in the effort to make the restoration of women’s rights a nonnegotiable element of a post-Taliban Afghanistan, and has been at the forefront of insuring that the plight of Afghan women is included in the world’s reporting of the war in Afghanistan.

Recent television appearances include Larry King Live, The Today Show, CNN with Paula Zahn, Hardball with Chris Mathews, MSNBC Nightly News and the Tonight Show.

Mavis has also been featured in articles in TIME, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Vanity Fair, US, and People

In the long run for disaster and then gloom at the same time the current recession takes
a toll, the united states has found the fed government in this
particular seems to did not mainly realised of the fact that UK is there to some horrible debt chaos, that is planning to truly take action, ideally
resorting england back into the united states doing it was previously.
Hopefully, this story will come to a conclusion soon with the safe detonation of
the bomb but what it does highlight is the fact that
although there has been no air raids for more than 60 years, there
are still dangerous, undiscovered weapons out there. On Sunday, I went for a quiet walk
with my family at the seaside town of Felixstowe.

Can I simply just say what a comfort to uncover an individual who actually knows what they are talking about over
the internet. You actually know how to bring a problem to light and make
it important. More people must check this out and
understand this side of the story. I can’t believe you’re not more popular given that you most certainly have the gift.

Hello – how are you! I am a resident of Newport, RI and am trying to reach Mavis Leno who has recently purchased a home here. A group of fabulous, diverse women have opened a Women’s Cooperative and we thought it would be AMAZING if Mavis would be willing to give a lecture at our Cooperative. I know this is a long shot but what the hell – worth a try right! Thank you and appreciate any help you can offer. Email is above – THANK YOU! ?
